Like many stitchers Lizzie remembers stitching with her grandmother and now carries on that tradition and stitches with her own very young grandchild. She uses voile in hoops so the process of stitching can be seen by children. Lizzie did a degree at art college and teacher training at Margaret Street in Birmingham. Lizzie is a special needs expert. She generously shared a host of her pieces during the evening with a presentation themed around animals including chickens, inspired by her next door neighbour’s flock.

To make her beautiful pieces Lizzie considers a range of fabrics to see how they will transfer to the piece. She has a wide range of animal inspirations, including squirrels, hares and fish. The latter were inspired by silver fish from the North East from when women would follow the fishing fleet.

We were also shown a number of much larger pieces and some wonderful peacocks. Most impressive are chasubles each of which took a long time to complete. One is based on our lady of Walsingham. Also included are swallows, symbols of resurrection

Excitingly Lizzie is also running a workshop for BETA in October, which will help participants create beautiful hedgehogs, as shown below. She will provide instructions, and fabric for what looks likely to be a very enjoyable day. Lizzie has a range of workshops she can deliver and does so for varied groups in varied locations. We held our usual raffle this month in the colour purple. As you can see a local link, Cadburys featured in the donated contents unsurprisingly given the colour. The two bags shown below were decorated by Julia and Bernadette.

We started the traveling book process. Books will be exchanged at the next meeting. This meeting will be member led ,with Hel leading braid making and Brenda fabric weaving, very successful activities to which we are returning. Members can do the workshop they missed last time.
